Dashka began apprenticing in a small jewelry-making business in 1970, after graduating from Boston University with a degree in Philosophy. Later, she took private lessons from Ann Garland in Boston. Still later, she returned to school, attending Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she majored in jewelry, a division of the sculpture department. Upon leaving RISD, she worked for a jewelry making company in Providence, RI as a designer and design coordinator. Moving out to California, she continued as a designer for a small jewelry company in El Segundo, south of Marina del Rey. She also became certified in diamond grading, colored stone identification and jewelry repair at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Santa Monica, CA.
Dashka opened her first New Orleans gallery in the French Quarter in 1979, and later moved Uptown on Magazine Street where she had an art gallery that also specialized in artful jewelry. By the time she moved back to the French Quarter it was her 4th gallery in New Orleans, where she remained for the last 25 years, being awarded the Buyers' Market of American Craft award for Top 100 Retailer of American Craft 1993-1998, and the Top Ten Retailer of American Craft in 1999, 2001 and 2002. She recently closed her brick and mortar gallery to concentrate on updating her website with her most recent designs, as well as creating relationships with retail galleries that will exhibit her beautiful jewelry.
